VTG Guatemalan Handicraft Wooden Lidded TRINKET BOX Hand Painted QUETZEL Bird

For your consideration is this lovely wooden handicraft Trinket Box produced in Guatemala for the tourist trade. This little souvenir features a hand painted Quetzel Bird perched upon a branch motif on the top in addition to reading "Guatemala / C.A" underneath the design. The Quetzel bird is the National bird of Guatemala, being a symbol of liberty. Seller is uncertain when the item would have been produced, but believes it to be during the latter part of the 20th century. The round lid measuring 3.9 inches in diameter lifts off of the base (not a tight fit). The base appears to be hand turned, the outside decorated with rings, and the entire surface, except for bottom, is primitively glazed. The bottom remains unglazed and has "JCA" written in pencil. The inner section measures approximately 2.6 inches inner diameter x 1.2 inches deep. The entire piece stands 2.1 inches in height, and weighs 5.5 ounces.
