DESCRIPTION
This vintage Mexican wall plaque features the Aztec Sun Stone or Calendar Stone. The piece is cast from a white ceramic material with a terracotta-colored wash applied to the recessed areas to accentuate the intricate relief. The design depicts the central deity Tonatiuh surrounded by celestial symbols and historical eras. The reverse side is unfinished and includes an integrated wire loop for wall hanging. This is a traditional example of Mexican folk art souvenir ware.
SIZE
The plaque measures approximately 9.5 inches in diameter and 0.5 inches in depth.
CONDITION
The item is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is light surface wear consistent with age and handling. The white base material and the reddish wash are well-preserved across the entire face of the plaque. The wire hanger remains securely embedded in the back.
