vintage "Hostess Cake Breaker" in its original packaging.
This tool, also known as a cake rake or chiffon cake slicer, was designed to cleanly slice delicate cakes like angel food, chiffon, and sponge cakes without squashing or crumbling them.
It works by using its prongs to pierce and hold the cake slice, allowing for a clean cut and easy transfer to a plate.
The cake breaker was invented by Cale J. Schneider in 1932 and gained popularity in the 1950s, often used in promotional giveaways by baking companies.
