Brighten the Corners (1997) finds Pavement tightening up while
staying slyly offbeat. The songs are more structured, with warmer guitar

Its smoother, more tuneful, and reflective. Less chaotic than
earlier work, but still rich with skewed charm and subtle, crooked pop
sensibilities.
