Antique English ironstone pitcher dating to the late 19th century, with a deep scalloped pouring spout and applied handle with pierced scroll terminals. Decorated in a dark green peony floral transferware design with rococo-style scrollwork on a heavy white ironstone body and gold enamel accents.
This type of ironstone was produced in Staffordshire, England, and this example is attributed to the Maddocks / J. & G. Meakin circle. The base has a painted “511” form or pattern number, consistent with English ironstone production of the period. Likely made between 1890-1900.
Very good antique condition. No cracks or repairs. Expected but minor age-related wear to glaze, including minor rubbing/surface marks and age related wear on the gold accents consistent with 19th-century ironstone.
Measures 7.5” tall, 6.5” across with handle, 5.5” depth, weighs 1 lb 7 oz.
